In my query posted before: 31. nova-docker setup in devstack (murali)

For Debugging I have removed the files and cloned devstack mitaka branch
again, Then executed the stack.sh again,

Now getting the error as follows:

securitygrouprulesfordevices RPC timeout & vm network
fail
Message-ID: 201608312010332008482@mail.com
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="gb2312"

we are running Havana (2013.2.3 )(provider network/ovs
bridge/dhcp/dnsmasq)?
It is running well in the past .
But today something broken , when creating a new vm , the vm was created
successfully , but vm network failed.

I see "cloud-init-nonet waiting 120 seconds for a network device." via
nova console-log vmid.
vm did not get ip via dhcp.
I tried to ifconfig the vm manually via vnc , but it did not work either.

There is error log in /var/log/neutron/openvswitch-agent.log:
ERROR neutron.plugins.openvswitch.agent.ovsneutronagent [-] Error in
agent event loop
Timeout while waiting on RPC response - topic: "q-plugin", RPC method:
"securitygrouprulesfordevices" info: ""

There are lots of message which are not comsumed in q-plugin queue in
rabbitmq.
The numbers of message in q-plugin queue is getting more and more .
root@rise-mq-27:~# rabbitmqctl list_queues -p /13fa9ce55 name durable
messages |grep q-plugin
q-plugin false 135269

My questions are :
1. Does the q-plugin lead to the vm network failture?
2. if so , who are the comsumer of q-plugin , how I can make them comsume
again?
3. it is said that it will skip "q-plugin" RPC timeout issue if disabling
security group .
I've read this post https://ask.openstack.org/en/
question/9592/disabling-security-groups-in-horizon/
and wonder whether I should edit both(nova and neutron) configuration
files only in HV
or also in nova/neutron server (controller)?

Thank you .

Yes, everyone on Mitaka. You'll either have to upgrade or
use v1 LBaaS. Or do it from the shell.

Yes, latest Mitaka. But that's the "current stable". There's a
newer version, the development version.

cloud-init and cloud-config is how one can add a password to a cloud image
though it is NEVER recommended.

See:

http://cloudinit.readthedocs.io/en/latest/topics/examples.html

and read about users and groups and mkpasswd

cloud-init will read this at vm boot time and apply the cloud-config
(presuming you have cloud-init service installed in your image--which you
should)

You now have an image with a known user password.

such credentials?

Very few (any??) cloud images have password login enabled. Probably
because this is a cloud image. Anyone, anywhere can download it,
and if there was a default PW, then anyone could login.

Instead, you add your SSH key to OS, and then add that to the instance.

Look in Horizon, under "Project -> Compute -> Access & Security -> Key
Pairs"
and then "Project -> Compute -> Instances -> Launch Instance -> Key
Pair".

But that information is available with curl (in clear text!) on

Actually, you might be in luck. If you can wait one or two months:

https://releases.openstack.org

Newton is supposed to be released in about a month.

Hy,

Here is a link:
http://docs.openstack.org/mitaka/networking-guide/config-lbaas.html

You should check the "Add LBaaS panels to Dashboard" section.

Yes, IPv4 have this rule and works fine. Adding a similar rule manually

So is the ip6tables rule just wrong? Feel free to add any info to the bug

Technically, that's not Mitaka! That's using Horizon from Newton.

Which is basically what I said - you need to upgrade beyond
Mitaka to get LBaaSv2 to work (in Horizon).

Tell me about it!! And the documentation could stand a improvement
as well.

Every year they have new release how people migrate old stuff from old
to new, kinds scary..

And they keep changing the options (in the config files) all the time.
Instead of taking some time and think things trough and figure out what
they actually want to do! I've seen terrible horror stories about upgrading
from one release to another :(

I do NOT (!!) look forward to upgrade this in a couple of months! I
will most likely just skip the next version and if/when I need to a
couple of years down the line, do a complete reinstall of everything :(.

It's simply not acceptable, and does not give confidence in Openstack!

How/where did you get that mate? :)

[xyz(cc1:2)] <~> sudo dpkg --list |grep dashboard
ii openstack-dashboard 2:9.0.1-0ubuntu2~cloud0
all Django web interface for OpenStack

Version 9.0.1 is Mitaka horizon, and we patched the lbaasv2 gui as a
local module ;)
As my colleague mentioned before, you can find information here:
http://docs.openstack.org/mitaka/networking-guide/config-lbaas.html

Let me quote a sentence from this page: "The Dashboard panels for
managing LBaaS v2 are available starting with the Mitaka release."

If you open the git repository from the link above, you can see two
branches (master for newton, and stable/mitaka)

Please take a time to pick up the information, before spread out
something, which is not real...

Thanks:
Peter

[xyz(cc1:2)] <~> sudo dpkg --list |grep dashboard
ii openstack-dashboard 2:9.0.1-0ubuntu2~cloud0 all

That is what you installed originally. But if you ran

    python setup.py install

as it said to do in that page, you overwrote the package
you installed (Mitaka) with something from devel (probably
Newton - next stable).

Look at the line above that python line. It say:

    Install the Dashboard panel plug-in

I.e., overwrite what you already have.

Version 9.0.1 is Mitaka horizon, and we patched the lbaasv2 gui as a
local module ;)

Yes and 'kinda', but what you did was overwrite your Mitaka version
with that one.

Let me quote a sentence from this page: "The Dashboard panels for
managing LBaaS v2 are available starting with the Mitaka release."

Yes, but that's somewhat misleading. What it actually mean is that
that version can be made to work on Mitaka! Somewhat different.

If you open the git repository from the link above, you can see two
branches (master for newton, and stable/mitaka)

Yes, FOR Mitaka. Not Mitaka. Difference!

Please take a time to pick up the information, before spread out
something, which is not real?

And you need to understand what you're actually DOING and not just
read what's said. Not everything on the 'Net is true!

Cause my Mitaka cames from package, all the files supposed to be under
        /usr/share and /usr/lib right?

Here what I did (after cloning the repo, and switch branch):
[root(cc1:0)] <~/neutron-lbaas-dashboard> python setup.py install &>
lbaasgui_install

Then i copied the lbaasgui_install content to pastebin:
http://pastebin.com/pNwjRMU6

The only file, which had been created under /usr/share is the module
file (1481projectngloadbalancersv2_panel.py file) after I copied it...

Can you point me out any overwritten file from the installed package?
(I know, that I have new files under /usr/local/ which supposed to use
for the new Loadbalancer menu, but that not replace anything in mitaka
horizon!)

Peter

Just because it didn't technically overwrite each and every file,
doesn't mean you didn't upgrade.

The end result is that you're now running Horizon from Newton. I.e.,
you've upgraded. So what package you've installed is completely
irrelevant.

But I need to rely on the upstream URLs for two reasons:

1- During Glance provision, I can't download the images, the images MUST be
downloaded by Glance itself, by demand (that's why I always use --location
and that's why I'm still using Glance v1;

2- By relying on a remote URL, I don't need to re-add the images every
single time that upstream updates its image, Glance will always download
the latest directly from upstream.

BTW, I've sent those messages to both lists (Ubuntu / OpenStack) because
this interests Ubuntu and since Glance is failing with Error 500, OpenStack
guys might be interested as well.

This broke my OpenStack deployment, because Glance tries to download it

Here is how I'm adding Ubuntu images to my OpenStack Mitaka Cloud:

glance image-create --location http://uec-images.ubuntu.com/r

The neutron DHCP agent does not issue leases for ports that don't exist in
the Neutron DB. There was a time when it would issue a DHCPNAK to other
DHCP traffic[1], but that's been fixed for quite some time now. perhaps
that was the bad behavior in Juno that you observed?

Because it could also have been that it tried to takeover the gateway
IP.
That would certainly mess with connectivity on the network.

Just mentioning because you gave the example --router:external while I
think it should be --router:external True

Also if it is dhcp misbehaving you might be able to fix it with the
dnsmasqconfigfile option in the dhcp agent. You can probably blacklist
everything that does not start with the OpenStack MAC range. (Base_mac
setting)

I currently don't have a setup to reproduce this so I cannot be 100%
sure about the details or if this works ;-)

I do not think this should happen.
It has been a while (Folsom) since I touched a setup with mixed ?LAN?
and OpenStack DHCP but IIRC it works like this:

AFAIK the leases file neutron uses is very specific and will only
reply to the mac-addresses that are in the dnsmasq config.
Looking at the dnsmasq process it is set to static:
From the man page:
The optional keyword may be static which tells dnsmasq to
enable DHCP for the network specified, but not to dynamically allocate IP
addresses, only hosts which have static addresses given via dhcp-host or
from /etc/ethers will be served.

Usually the problem is the other way around:
The existing DHCP in the ?lan? bites with what OpenStack does. (so an
OpenStack instance gets an IP from the lan DHCP)
This can be prevented by blacklisting the MAC address range your
instances get in your lan dhcp (Blacklist MAC starting with fa:16:3e )

Excerpts from Martinx - ?????'s message of 2016-08-31 18:24:07 -0400:

But I need to rely on the upstream URLs for two reasons:

1- During Glance provision, I can't download the images, the images MUST
be
downloaded by Glance itself, by demand (that's why I always use
--location
and that's why I'm still using Glance v1;

2- By relying on a remote URL, I don't need to re-add the images every
single time that upstream updates its image, Glance will always download
the latest directly from upstream.

This is somewhat ludicrous. You've made your cloud dependent on a free
internet service with zero security.

If anything, setup your own local HTTP server and set the location to
that. But, then it starts to look a little ridiculous, when you could
just use the glance file store and upload to glance.

Thanks Thiago for including OpenStackers. But you do point out some
interesting deployment scenario for which I'm more than inclined to
comment on for being a community and openstack users' well wisher.
Please see notes inline.

It's a bit unfortunate that you use it this way, as Glance v1 was never
designed to be directly used by the users, it has a design for an
internal service for Nova, Cinder, etc. to use (service to service
communications).

2- By relying on a remote URL, I don't need to re-add the images every
single time that upstream updates its image, Glance will always
download the latest directly from upstream.

This is a bad idea (very very ... very bad idea). The very fact that
OpenStack replies on storing images to glance is so that the user can
know what image they are going to consume. Image locations has been
designed to be admin only feature for the same reason (with the
assumption that v1 was supposed to be internal only API). I strongly
urge you to use the image locations feature with that context.

Having such a setup will result into a unknown state where the uuid of
the image is same but if some random (may even be malicious) image is
stored at that http url, at any given point of time your cloud is not
secure. Also, there are other reasons why such a setup shouldn't be
made: the references Nova uses to determine which image the VM was
booted from is stored against the uuid of that image. If the remote url
is subject to change anytime, the shared understanding of Nova, Glance
and the user about that image will be wrong, for the image bytes have
mutated since last check.

BTW, I've sent those messages to both lists (Ubuntu / OpenStack)
because this interests Ubuntu and since Glance is failing with Error
500, OpenStack guys might be interested as well.

Glance has no control over the remote urls so, it's failing to interpret
the inaccessible location. In such a scenario the appropriate error is
indeed 500 -- as glance assumes that the deployment will have resilient
access to that image location.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!
Thiago

If 9.0.1 is mitaka and as per doc it should support LBaasS v2 then why
it doesn't working for me. I have latest RDO running and here is my

How/where did you get that mate? :)

[xyz(cc1:2)] <~> sudo dpkg --list |grep dashboard
ii openstack-dashboard 2:9.0.1-0ubuntu2~cloud0 all
Django web interface for OpenStack

Version 9.0.1 is Mitaka horizon, and we patched the lbaasv2 gui as a
local
module ;)
As my colleague mentioned before, you can find information here:
http://docs.openstack.org/mitaka/networking-guide/config-lbaas.html

Let me quote a sentence from this page: "The Dashboard panels for
managing
LBaaS v2 are available starting with the Mitaka release."

If you open the git repository from the link above, you can see two
branches
(master for newton, and stable/mitaka)

Please take a time to pick up the information, before spread out
something,
which is not real...

Thanks:
Peter

The mitaka release support LBaaS v2, with stock images, but without
Horizon GUI support.. (it means: neutron driver/service plugin/api working)
In another way: You can crate lbaasv2 load balancers with the cli tool
(described in a link too) and you can also setup the gui part from the
        git repository...

I don't know, that Mitaka will makes horizon package with the lbaasv2
GUI, or it will be only from Newton... :(

I choose v1 LBaaS because users prefer to use a graphic interface.

Having a worse service that uses a lot of people is better than have a
better service that uses nobody. ;-)

In line 339 you have except RuntimeError: which expects intended block.
It looks like some problem with applied patch, something is missing, or
similar.
If this is correct patch, you can add in line 340, with correct
intendation Python keyword pass.

But, if you have this problem, there could be also couple different issues.

I'm surprised why mitaka doesn't have this patch in their latest github
repo?

This is a serious issue.

In line 339 you have except RuntimeError: which expects intended block.
It looks like some problem with applied patch, something is missing, or
similar.
If this is correct patch, you can add in line 340, with correct
intendation Python keyword pass.

But, if you have this problem, there could be also couple different
issues.

Patch: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/273591819/router_info.patch

So i have manually applied patch with following command:

patch < router_info.patch

it successfully patched file but python i need to compile it in pyo &
pyc extension right?

When i tried to do i got this error

[root@compute-1 tmp]# python -O -m compileall routerinfo.py
Compiling router
info.py ...
Sorry: IndentationError: expected an indented block (router_info.py,
line 342)

I have checked all space/tabs etc but not able to find anything :(

here is the patched file in pastebin http://pastebin.com/JdF1d8rN
(see 342 line)

Bug you provided is marked as duplicated. This is bug which got resolved
[1].
This fix was merged to Mitaka and released [2] just 2 days ago.
Probably you need to wait until new version of RDO will be released.
