[openstack-qa] how to restart cinder services though api

HI All,

I need help on testing config changes for cinder.config for verifcation of config keys.

What is best procedure to do it.

for manual testing I use following commands to do it

kill -9 ps aux | grep -v grep | grep cinder-api | awk '{print $2}'

sed -i -e 's/[#]defaultvolumetype.=.*/default_volume_type=gold/g' /etc/cinder/cinder.conf

cd /opt/stack/cinder ; /opt/stack/cinder/bin/cinder-api --config-file /etc/cinder/cinder.conf > /opt/stack/logs/screen/screen-c-api.log 2>&1 &

If I want to automate it os.system comand then it will be hardcoding of paths. any better way of doing it ?

Please let me know if you want more info.

satyadev

[openstack-qa] Post job failures

Hello QA team,

When a job fails in the post queue (which have jobs that are triggered
on a change being merged) no warning or failure message is sent anywhere
so it does so silently. This has caused an issue in the past[0] and
there are likely more cases we don't know about.

We should report failures somewhere but since post jobs don't come from
gerrit they can't be reported back to gerrit trivially. And even if we
could it would be a comment on a closed change.

My feeling is an easy solution is to email somewhere when a post job
fails. However I'm not sure where might be an appropriate location for
that. Would this mailing list, for example, be a good place to start and
then see how we go?

I've set up the change here: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/125298/

Cheers,
Josh

My concern is that we have some broken post jobs already and might get
many emails. Jim Blair did a quick search and found 15-20 per day.

As an example, glance_store's coverage post job will always fail since
it misses a requirement (fix@[1]). There are more of these jobs.

Should we enable the mails and then push projects to fix their jobs? Or
should we first try to get those fixed to have less emails?

We really need some kind of notification somewhere, otherwise we have
critical jobs failing for a long time ;(

[openstack-qa] Tempest scenarios create networks with different CIDR

Hi Team,

Is there any way to create subnet's with different CIDR in different
networks in standard tempest. If i run "
tempest/scenario/testminimumbasic.py" then it tries to create 2 networks
and both are having the same CIDR wich is mentioned in tempest.conf. Is
there any way to change it . Like it should use different CIDR for
different subnets

Like I should be able to mention both CIDR in tempest.conf as a list and it
should pick up from there. If this option is not present please let me know
which is the best way to implement it.

Thanks,

Hi Naggappan,

As it is now tempest, should pick up any cidr that is free starting from the one specified on the tempest.conf. Anyway we have submitted bug report for that and proposed a fix there: https://bugs.launchpad.net/tempest/+bug/1414702 https://bugs.launchpad.net/tempest/+bug/1414702

If you can review it we might be able to merge the change faster.

[openstack-qa] default route (bridge) issue on fedora 21

Hello,

I am struggling with a route issue on Fedora 21 while running
devstack-gate so I am looking for any insights on what could be the root
cause.

Problem: Network connectivity to the VM is lost as soon as Tempest
starts creating the bridge br100 and redefines the default route.

Looks like default route is not set correctly for f21. Tried several
configs to ifcfg-* scripts with no result. The default route keeps being
set for dev eth0 instead of dev br100 (like in f20 when it worked).

So if I m in the right direction, the question is:
Why default route is set to dev eth0 and not to br100 like in f20 ?

F21 ==> default 9.114.112.254 0.0.0.0 UG 1024 0 0 eth0
f21: http://fpaste.org/197321/26190258/

F20 ==> default 9-114-112-254ga 0.0.0.0 UG 1024 0 0 br100
f20: http://fpaste.org/197320/26190209/

This is the set of commands nova-network runs for the bridge setup:
http://paste.fedoraproject.org/202436/47826142/

I'd appreciate any suggestions on what I could try.

Thanks,

Hi Rafael Folco,

Tempest doesn't create an bride and start the test. Everything should be
done manually before starting the tempst.
May I know which particular test case you execute or please share the
command how you execute the tempest

Or I guess you are trying to use devstack-gate which sets up the VM and
then runs the tempest. Please give more details how you run this tempest

[openstack-qa] [tempest] UUIDs and names in tempest.conf file

Hi!

I have a question regarding usage of UUIDs and names in the tempest.conf file. Are there some common ideas/reasons (except unambiguousness and making test cases simpler) why some parameters (e.g. publicnetworkid, flavorref, imageref, ...) are designed so that they require entity UUIDs but others (e.g. fixednetworkname, floatingnetworkname, ...) require entity names?

Currently I use shell scripts for creating images and flavors with some predefined ID (like 01010101-0101-0101-0101-010101010101) just to avoid updating of the related parameters into configuration file every time when some new environment is taken into use. The problem here is that e.g. image ID cannot be reused after deleting the image (unless the data is removed directly from database) and flavors cannot be updated without changing their ID.

So I need to point out that the openstack-qa list isn't used anymore. We only
keep it around so we have a place to send for periodic test results. In the
future you should just send things to the openstack-dev ML with a [QA] tag
in the subject.

So this is mostly a historical artifact from before I even started working on
the project, my guess is this was done because not all resources require unique
names, but that's just my guess. Config options to tell tempest resources to use
which were added more recently use a name because it's hard for people to deal
with uuids. That being said there is a spec still under review to rationalize
how we specify resources in tempest to make things a bit simpler and more
consistent: https://review.openstack.org/173334 Once the details are ironed out
in the spec review and implementation begins we'll deprecate most of the
existing options in favor of the new format for specifying resources.

So there are several scripts out there to do something similar (make a couple
images and flavors to use for testing) to do some of those common setup steps.
There used to be an in-tree bash script in tempest to do the same thing too.
It was removed because it was basically unmaintained and had bit-rotted to
the point it didn't really work. There is a patch up for review right now to
provide a new in-tree tool for automating some of these initial configuration
steps here: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/133245/

[openstack-qa] Query Regarding Redhat Openstack Certification

Hi All,

We had a query related to the Redhat Openstack Certification:

Do we have this certification only for plugins, drivers and software applications OR is it also applicable to a VM to be deployed on the RH Openstack ??

Something like : it is certified that xyz VM can be provisioned on Redhat Openstack deployments

Thanks

[openstack-qa] tempest

Hey, I would like to get help with Tempest, Ive been setting tempest up for testing my openstack server, I've been using testr to run the tests but I need some help to figure out stuff on the "tempest.config" file, for example, at the compute section, what "ID" do i need to write in the "image_ref" row?
is there any other manual or some help docs for tempest other than "http://docs.openstack.org/developer/tempest/configuration.html#tempest-configuration" ?
any other full explanation of "tempest.config" file?
thanks

Hi,

please note that the openstack-qa distribution list is not used anywhere, we only keep it for periodic tests notifications.
You should use openstack-dev instead.

Documentation is available at [0] and in the sample file [1].
Tempest configuration is uploaded to logs after each CI job - see for instance [2].
You can use that to see how tempest is configured for different jobs and/or different branches.

You can also activate the tempest service in devstack, and you will get a functional tempest.conf in there based on your devstack setup.

[openstack-qa] editing tempest test in rally

Hey,
I would like to know how can I edit test in tempest, for example, I have the test "testserverbasic_ops" (inside scenario),
I want to make this test run without the function that deletes the instance, how can I do that? I've tried to delete the line in the code but it didn't do anything,
how can I make it happen?
thanks

Are you sure you are editing the right copy of the file and is there a corresponding .pyc file? You could try deleting that.

You should be able to edit a test and change outcome.

Thanks,

[openstack-qa] Placement of API coverage gap tests in functional suite

Hello,

We are currently implementing integration tests to fill in the API coverage
gaps currently in the existing suite. I submitted for review tests for the
'stack events' API (see URL below); However, there is disagreement about
where such tests should reside. The dissenting reviewers don't want to add
to the overhead of the whole functional test cycle by creating yet another
stack; But my question is where to actually shoehorn such API calls among
the existing suite in a way that is organized and doesn't make things more
convoluted.

For example, I could affix 'stack event' API validation tests to, say...
testcreateupdate.teststackinplaceupdate()

...thereby 'piggybacking' on the stack created there. But does that add or
detract from how the suite is organized?

Any feedback or guidance is appreciated here, as we were hoping to approach
this enhancement in an organized way.

Test suite in question: heat_integrationtests/functional

[openstack-qa] [openstack] [swift] - swift not replicating properly

Hello everyone,

We have a openstack swift installation for development purposes, and
we are facing problems with swift not replicating properly.
Its supposed to save always 3 replicas. In my tests, swift places only
one copy of the object, and sometimes two, but never 3.

ring configuration is:

[root@openstack3 ~]# swift-ring-builder
/etc/swift/object.builder

/etc/swift/object.builder, build version 11
512 partitions, 3.000000 replicas, 2 regions, 3 zones, 5 devices, 0.98
balance, 100.00 dispersion
The minimum number of hours before a partition can be reassigned is 1
The overload factor is 0.00% (0.000000)
Devices: id region zone ip address port replication ip
replication port name weight partitions balance meta
0 1 1 10.10.6.21 6000
10.10.6.21 6000 mpatha 500.00 1160 -0.31
1 1 1 10.10.6.11 6000
10.10.6.11 6000 disk1 40.00 94 0.98
3 1 2 10.10.6.13 6000

5 1 2 10.10.6.12 6000
10.10.6.12 6000 disk1 40.00 94 0.98

We have a MRC, with 2 regions, and when i place one big object (2Gb)
and monitor disk spaces of nodes with df, we observed that it places
several times the object in zones of the same region, and only two copys,
and sometimes only one copy.

When i test the placement with swift-get-nodes i get this:
[root@swift-1 ~]# swift-get-nodes dummy3

[openstack-qa] [tempest][keystone]Inherit API was not found in API tempest.

Hi all,

I'm creating a tempest that conforms to operational environment
of OpenStack that we have built.

So far as I've seen the API tempest in the community,
Inherit API of Keystone was not found.

Does this exist somewhere? Other task is moving in relation to this?

If not, I want to challenge to post a patch of this.

Do you mean this API?

I've found a client for OS-TRUST extension api
in tempest/services/identity/v3/json/identity_client.py but not about

So I think you can add OS-INHERIT api client and test then post it :)

[openstack-qa] Request for review

Hello

I got couple changesets one in tempest and one in tempest-lib and both more than 6 month on review already.

I got one +2 for tempest lib change and very few reviews on tempest

Please take a look and review them.

https://review.openstack.org/#/c/188758/ (tempest lib, one +2)
https://review.openstack.org/#/c/178137/ (tempest scenario tests )

Thanks,
Dmitry Ratushnyy

[openstack-dev] [openstack-infra][nova][tempest][qa][infra] NUMA topology, cpu pinning, hugepages tempest tests upstream or plugin

Hi all,

Due to recent discussions around Enhanced Platform Awareness (EPA) and their testing in OpenStack thinking was started to take what Intel NFV 3rd party CI [1] runs at this moment and merge some/all into upstream Tempest. Currently intel-nfv-ci-tests is a Tempest plugin [2] [3] and it's running on all Nova changes , sample [4]. Merging them with upstream Tempest would give testing environments an option to turn them on with a flip of a switch in tempest.conf rather than pip install + tempest run with all-plugin (to enable site_packages).

While some of them may be easier from technical stand point (hugepages) some of them may not be possible in cloud providers used by OpenStack Infra.

Both options: Tempest plugin, upstream Tempest have pros and cos and we'd like to get broader community to comment on that.
If you have any feedback, suggestions, ideas please follow up here.
